TOWER RESIDENT WINS $33,363 NORTHSTAR CASH® PRIZE

On Saturday, March 7, Mary Lakoskey woke up to some very good news. The Tower resident learned from her husband that the Northstar Cash ticket she purchased the day before hit the $33,363 jackpot!
“I heard him yelling, ‘You hit the jackpot! You hit the jackpot!’” But for a skeptical Lakoskey, that wasn’t enough to get her out of bed. “I thought he was kidding,” she explained. However, as his persistence and excitement rose, she flew out of bed to see for herself. Sure enough, the numbers on her quick-pick ticket matched all five winning numbers (4-6-9-18-22) to hit the $33,363 jackpot.
Lakoskey’s first thought was, “This kind of stuff doesn’t happen to me.” But after checking the paper, the Lottery’s Web site, the Lottery’s winning numbers hotline and finally having the ticket checked at a Lottery retailer, the reality of winning began to sink in for her.
As she claimed the prize at the Lottery’s headquarters in Roseville on March 10, Lakoskey said, “It couldn’t have happened at a better time.” Vermilion Fuel & Food, located at 516 Main St. in Tower, sold the winning ticket.
The following Northstar Cash jackpots are still unclaimed: a $28,000 jackpot from July 16, 2008 (sold in Stearns County), a $40,360 jackpot from Jan. 28, 2009 (sold in Hennepin County) and a $25,000 jackpot from March 7, 2009 (sold in Olmsted County). Northstar Cash players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.
To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn.
