WIN BRINGS DELAYED SHOCK FOR LA PORTE CITY WOMAN

DES MOINES, Iowa – A La Porte City woman has won the top prize in "Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game."
When Shirley Caldwell grabbed her ticket from home to have it checked, she didn't realize there had been a $100,000-winning ticket sold at the Pronto where she purchased it at.
"I was going to get new ones, so I picked it up and took it up there," explained Caldwell to Lottery staff on Thursday. "First he said it was $1,000. Then he said it was $10,000. And then he said, 'Oh my gosh. It's $100,000!' And I came home."
Caldwell bought her winning ticket at Pronto, 7305 La Porte Road in Washburn.
At first it didn't quite hit Caldwell that she had won such a large prize until she got home.
"I got in the car and I went home, and I got in my garage and threw some garbage away," said Caldwell. "And I thought, 'Oh my gosh. I'm going to throw up. I won $100,000!' That's when it hit me. It took a few blocks."
Caldwell headed next door to her daughter's house and started sharing the good news.
"I went and told her and I called my grandson and I called my son," laughed Caldwell. "I told my other kids after I got home."
She claimed her prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Caldwell won the top prize in Saturday's drawing of Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game. The winning numbers that night were: 2-9-26-30-33. Caldwell's ticket matched all five numbers drawn to win the top prize.
Players in Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game choose five numbers from a pool of 35. Tickets in the game cost $1 and drawings are held at 6:28 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The odds of winning the game's top prize are 1 in 324,632.
Caldwell had some immediate plans for her winnings including a car.
"I'm going to pay bills and I'm going to buy a new car," said Caldwell. "I kind of need one. I haven't been looking because I didn't have any money for it."
Prior to Caldwell's $100,000 win, the most she had ever won was $7. She said she "can do a lot more with this than I could with $7. I can use it."
