INDIANAPOLIS – Shelia Kolar of LaPorte won $50,000 on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off ticket just one day before her 65th birthday.
The lucky retiree scratched off five $10,000 wins on the Money Mania Scratch-off game.
"This happens to other people, not me," said Kolar. "Every now and then I'm lucky, but nothing like this has ever happened to me before."
Kolar purchased her ticket at Family Express #17 at 1038 Indiana Ave. in LaPorte Tuesday morning and almost immediately headed to Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis to claim her birthday winnings.
She says she has no idea what she's going to do with the money because it's all happened so fast. She has a very philosophical take on her win.
"I think everybody's lucky at some time in their life. The trick is to know when," she said with a laugh. "There's no such thing as a complete loser. Don't give up - especially around your birthday!"
