Boise – Clue, the classic whodunit detective game from Hasbro® usually conjures images of colorful suspects skulking around a mansion searching for evidence to find out “who did it.” The Idaho Lottery Scratch ticket version of the popular board game has had many players skulking around convenience stores and grocery stores since July looking for one of the game’s two top winning prizes. On Monday, one lucky couple from Hayden found a winning Clue ticket and won the top prize of $30,000.
Jim Johnson was searching for an early Valentine Day’s present for his wife Irene, when he purchased a box of chocolates, a card, and then stopped by one of the Idaho Lottery’s new Player Activated Terminals at the Super 1 Foods Store in Hayden. He purchased a few Lottery Scratch tickets and then gave them to his wife Irene as an early present before leaving town on business for a few days.
“I thought Valentine’s Day was coming a little earlier than it was and I didn’t want to miss it,” explained Johnson. “When I called her from the road, I didn’t believe her at first when she told me that she’d scratched the big winning ticket.”
“We had a few people check the ticket to be sure, including the store clerk. But until we got our check in Boise we didn’t really believe it,” said an excited Irene who claimed her winner along with her husband from the Idaho Lottery in Boise on Monday, February 9, 2009.
“It’s a real early Valentine’s Day present,” exclaimed Jim.
The couple did not have any immediate plans for their winnings. Super 1 Foods in Hayden will receive a $3,600 bonus from the Lottery for their part in selling the ticket.
The winning solution for this game of Clue was not, “Professor Plum did it in the Conservatory with a wrench.” Or even “Miss Scarlett in the Billiard Room with the candlestick.” The correct $30,000 winning solution was Jim Johnson did it for his wife at the Super 1 Foods store in Hayden with an Idaho Lottery Player Activated Terminal.
