GREELEY RESIDENT SCORES $40,000 POWERBALL PRIZE
February 2, 2009
FORT COLLINS – Kristina Aragon got a bit of good news on what is usually a very sad day. On Feb. 1st, Aragon realized she matched four of five numbers plus the Powerball number in Saturday night’s Powerball drawing. With her selection of the Power Play option (which hit 4 on Saturday), Aragon turned the normal $10,000 payout into a $40,000 prize. It was a little bittersweet for the mother and nursing student – she claimed her prize on the anniversary of the death of her husband and father, who were killed in an auto accident eight years ago.
A regular Lottery player, Aragon usually buys Lotto or Powerball tickets twice a week, and has for more than a decade. Until now, the largest prize she had collected was $27. She purchased the Quick Pick ticket at Kum & Go, 7027 20th St., in Greeley. The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were: 1, 14, 26, 33, 41 and the Powerball number was 37.
And what will Aragon do with the money?
“I’m going to Disneyland baby!” said Aragon, who visited the gas station where she purchased the ticket to find out if she won anything.
