RALEIGH - Douglas Kelsey of Franklinton woke up this morning to a happy surprise. His “Carolina Cash 5” ticket for last night’s drawing matched all five numbers drawn to win the top prize! Another ticket also matched all five numbers drawn in last night’s drawing, so the top prize of $667,520 was split between the two tickets. Kelsey’s winning share was $333,760.
Kelsey bought his ticket at Kelsey’s Supermarket on Highway 96 in Franklinton. He says he will donate some of his winnings to charity, as well as pay college expenses for his children.
The other ticket in last night’s “Carolina Cash 5” drawing that matched all five numbers drawn was sold at Cruizers on Ruin Creek Road in Henderson. It is also worth $333,760, but has yet to be claimed.
Seven North Carolina tickets in last night’s Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. One of these tickets was Power Played. Since the Power Play multiplier for the drawing was four, this ticket is worth $40,000. It was sold at Han Dee Hugo on Southport/Supply Road in Southport.
The other six tickets that matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball were not Power Played and are worth $10,000 each. These were sold at I-85 BP on Avondale Drive in Durham, Kangaroo Express on Ten Ten Road in Apex, Kangaroo Express on Jonestown Road in Winston-Salem, Bloom on Highway 49 in Harrisburg, Fastop Market on North New Hope Road in Gastonia, and Wilco on Trawick Road in Raleigh.
A total of 46,654 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Wednesday, Feb. 4 Powerball drawing, ranging from $40,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $528,713. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball, so the jackpot for the Saturday, Feb. 7 Powerball drawing is worth an estimated $65 million.
The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $5.2 million total in instant scratchoff ticket prizes since Monday, Feb. 2. Also since Monday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $927,824 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $962,680 in prizes.
