CUSTER COUPLE CLAIMS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE

(Pierre) – Roger and Toni Smith of Custer arrived at the Pierre Lottery office this morning to claim the $200,000 Powerball prize they won in last Saturday’s drawing.
Roger regularly buys Powerball tickets for each drawing, but late Saturday realized he hadn’t bought any for the drawing that night. Roger asked his wife Toni if she was feeling lucky. “I do feel lucky,” Toni said, and she headed to the Common Cents in Custer and bought ten quick pick Powerball tickets.
The couple was having coffee when they read the winning numbers in the paper on Sunday morning. Toni calmly said to her husband, “We didn’t get the Powerball, but we got the rest of them.”
Their son was visiting at the time and verified the numbers on the Lottery’s website. “We don’t know anyone more deserving,” Roman Smith said of his parent’s win. The retired couple recently moved to Custer to help care for their young grandchildren.
The Common Cents Food Store in Custer will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The Lottery is still waiting to hear from the winner of $20,000 Powerball prize. That ticket, sold in Spearfish, matched four of five white ball numbers and the red Powerball. Usually a $10,000 prize, the player had added the Power Play feature for an additional dollar. The prize multiplier was 2, doubling the prize.
The Power Play feature allows players to multiply their prizes, except the jackpot, by two to five times. Players can add the prize multiplier for an additional $1 at the time of purchase. The Power Play number from 2-5 is randomly chosen during each Powerball drawing.
