$1M POWERBALL WINNER CLAIMS PRIZE

Oklahoma City – Dexter Williamson and his wife, Tonia, have claimed the $1M prize from the Dec. 27, 2008 Powerball drawing. Dexter purchased the winning ticket at Mr. Smile, 1501 W. Britton Road, in Oklahoma City.
Call it ‘luck of the draw’ or a ‘gut instinct’, Dexter had a feeling his Powerball ticket with Power Play was going to hit it big—but he didn’t expect to become a millionaire overnight.
“I chose my numbers by looking at the Oklahoma Lottery website Powerball page and writing down whatever numbers came to me,” he said. “I just felt like I was supposed to play those numbers.”
A part-time postal worker, Dexter discovered he had won the morning after the drawing.
“I checked my numbers on the website and saw that I had won a million dollars,” he said. “I knew I had won that much because we always play Power Play.”
Williamson matched all five white balls to win $200,000. Since he purchased the Power Play option, Dexter’s prize was increased to $1M.
Taking it all in, Dexter was stunned and in disbelief. It took even longer for him to convince his wife. He often jokes about winning the Lottery so she wouldn’t believe him. She finally relented once she saw the Lottery website where it stated a $1M ticket had been sold in Oklahoma City. It seems as though she was the only one that didn’t know.
“I called our CPA to discuss our win and the first thing he said was ‘did you know they’re looking for a million dollar winner from Oklahoma City?’ said Tonia. “And I replied, that’s us!”
For now, the Willamson’s plan on establishing education funds for their two young children and then investing the rest of their winnings. They said the main reason they voted for the Lottery was because it supports education.
As a result of selling the $1M ticket, Mr. Smile was awarded $5,000 through the Sellers Bonus Program the Oklahoma Lottery launched in May 2008.
