CAR SERVICE DRIVER MAKES, RECEIVES $3,000,000 CHRISTMAS WISH

Schenectady, NY – Bulgaria-born Ekrem Delilov made a wish on December 17, 2008 as he reached out to hand a $10 bill to the clerk at the Sapan Convenience Store on 3rd Ave. in Brooklyn in exchange for one of the New York Lottery Bada Bling instant scratch off tickets on display behind the counter. The 48-year old car service driver said he wished for a “big money prize” in time for Christmas.
“I scratched the ticket right after buying it to see if my wish came true,” said the father of one whose daughter and grandson still live in Bulgaria. “And, to my great surprise, it was, many times over.” Delilov won the $3,000,000 top prize on the Bada Bling instant scratch off game.
Delilov immigrated to Brooklyn’s Bayridge neighborhood more than 22 years ago. He said his first thought upon winning the “big money prize” was returning home to break the news of his “lucky day” to his daughter. “We speak often, but I do not get to see (my daughter) as much as I would like,” Delilov said. “This will change that.”
Delilov claimed his $3,000,000 prize at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Manhattan the same day he scratched his ticket to reveal the $3,000,000 prize. He will receive his prize paid out in 20 annual payments of $150,000, less required tax withholdings. His annual net check will total $96,753.
Delilov is the 13th Lottery player from Brooklyn to receive a Lottery prize of $1,000,000 in 2008.
