A QUICK STOP FOR MILK EARNS CLIFTON PARK COUPLE $1,000 A WEEK FOR LIFE LOTTERY PRIZE
January 14, 2009
Schenectady, NY – Forty-four-year-old Kathleen Minissale made a simple phone call to her husband, Nino, to remind him to pick up some milk on his way home from work. Minissale would later learn that last minute call would turn an ordinary day into a $1,000,000 pay day for the Clifton Park couple, making them the Capital Region’s first Lottery Millionaires of 2009.
Along with the gallon of milk, Nino Minissale purchased twenty dollars worth of Win $1,000 a Week for Life instant tickets from the New York Lottery, a scratch-off ticket that guarantees winners a minimum prize payout of $1,000,000. The tickets cost two dollars each.
Nino Minissale, owner of New Music in Albany and North Country Piano and Guitar in Queensbury, purchased the winning Win $1,000 a Week for Life ticket at the Hess Mart on Crescent Road in Halfmoon on December 21, 2008. His wife later scratched the tickets to reveal the $1,000,000 top prize.
“He bought ten tickets, but it only took one to win the $1,000,000 prize,” said Minissale. The former retail manager turned stay-at-home mom later claimed the prize on the couple’s behalf on Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Lottery Customer Service Center in Schenectady.
“I was in shock when I realized I had a million dollar ticket and needed somewhere to put it for safe keeping,” she said. “I decided to keep in it my jewelry box until I could get to the Lottery offices to claim it.”
Minissale’s initial quarterly payment will total $13,494. Her subsequent net quarterly payments will total $8,770. Minissale said she has some plans for the first check. “I’ve always dreamed of taking a vacation to Mexico, she said. “But we’ll save most of the money for our daughter and retirement.”
