LUCKY COUPLE START NEW YEAR $200,000 RICHER
January 1, 2009
DENVER – Felix and Tammy Munoz had 200,000 reasons to break out the champagne last night. On December 27th, a ticket purchased ticket by Felix Munoz matched five of six numbers in the Powerball drawing, winning the couple $200,000. The pair claimed the big prize on New Year’s Eve, after Tammy Munoz heard about two tickets matching large prizes in Powerball on the radio and urged her husband to check his numbers.
“She just had a gut feeling,” said Felix Munoz. “I checked my numbers when I got home from work and I was quite surprised. I just sat there stunned and she was jumping up and down and screaming.”
Munoz has been playing Colorado Lottery games for 15 years, but up until now, the largest prize he’d ever won was $50 on a Scratch game. The couple plans to use the money become debt-free. And despite the windfall, the duo didn’t celebrate the New Year in lavish style.
“We went home, cooked a frozen pizza and played board games with our kids,” said Felix Munoz.
Munoz purchased his ticket at Diamond Shamrock, 4797 Wadsworth Blvd., Littleton. That store will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling that special ticket. The winning numbers for Saturday’s drawing were: 12, 15, 26, 31, 43 and the Powerball was 10. A $1 million winning Powerball ticket sold in Highlands Ranch, remains unclaimed.
