FIFTEEN YEAR WAIT TO SEE HIS MOTHER FINALLY OVER FOR ERIE COUNTY LOTTERY WINNER
December 23, 2008
Schenectady, NY – The last time thirty-eight-year-old Hieu Tran saw his mother was fifteen years ago in her native Vietnam. The South Buffalo resident is now planning a return trip to his homeland to pay her a long awaited visit and to tell her about the $1,000,000 Lottery prize he won on the New York Lottery’s popular In The Money instant scratch off ticket.

“With my mother so far away, obviously I don’t get to see her as much as I would like,” said the supervisor for Niagara LaSalle, the cold finished steel bar manufacturer based in Buffalo. “I have been hoping for a chance to get back to see her. Now that chance is here!”

Tran purchased his winning In The Money ticket at the Noco Express Shop on South Park at Reading in Buffalo. He said he purchased the In The Money ticket when it first came out in September of this year, “because he liked the look of it.”

He claimed his $1,000,000 prize on Friday, December 5th, at the Lottery Customer Service Center in Buffalo. He will receive 20 annual payments of $50,000, or $34,075 net.

The Lottery debuted the In The Money instant scratch off game on September 2, 2008. Tran is the second player to hit the $1,000,000 top prize on this particular ticket. The first was Donna Romano of Suffolk County in September of 2008. There are two $1,000,000 top prizes remaining.

Tran, an avid car enthusiast, said upon returning from Vietnam his first purchase will be a “new” old car. “I’m going to buy a Camero – not a new one either – so I can fix it up just the way I want it.”

The father of two also plans to take a trip to Disney World and save for his children’s education.
