DANIELSON RESIDENT WINS $25,000 PLAYING CT LOTTERY’S "THE THREE STOOGES"

When asked which of “The Three Stooges” was his favorite, Mike Bessette of Danielson proudly proclaimed himself a “Curly” fan. Then he laughed and gave CT Lottery officials a demonstration of finger-snapping and hand-clapping that is truly a classic Curly trademark. You can’t blame Bessette for his enthusiasm—he just won the second of four $25,000 top prizes in the CT Lottery’s “The Three Stooges” scratch game.
Bessette purchased his winning ticket at Rollie’s Variety store in Thompson on his way to work Saturday morning. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Bessette recalling the moment he realized he had a winning combination—matching 11’s. “I had to keep checking and rechecking the ticket,” he said with a laugh. Then, just to be absolutely sure, Bessette had the lottery clerk scan and validate his ticket.
Bessette arrived with his family at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill on this past Monday morning to claim his $25,000 prize ($17,501 after taxes). Bessette, a chef at a local family-style restaurant, plans to use a portion of the prize for paying bills. “It’s been fun. Everyone’s been congratulating me.”
Tickets for The Three Stooges went on sale September 17, 2008. Two more top prizes of $25,000 remain in the game, which features 16 classic “Stooge” scenes. Odds of winning a prize in The Three Stooges are 1 in 3.35. Scratch game probability based on number of tickets available for a game rather than on individual purchases
