RALEIGH - Powerball, the world’s best known jackpot lottery game, will be making some changes when Florida joins the multi-state game in January. The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) wants to clarify information provided earlier regarding the impact of matching all five white balls and Power Playing.
One of the enhancements planned for the game in January is that the Match 5 prize with the Power Play option will have a guaranteed 5X multiplier, regardless of the multiplier number drawn for the 7 remaining non jackpot prize levels. Players who match all five white balls and Power Play will win $1 million. However, in rare instances where there are an unusually large number of winners at this level and the Powerball set prize amount is not sufficient to pay all winners $1 million, then Powerball may announce in accordance with Powerball and NCEL game rules that the payment to winners who Power Played will be pari-mutuel, meaning that the winners will each receive an equal share of the available pool for the Power Play prize amount.
