HOLIDAY CHEER COMES EARLY FOR A CENTERREACH MAN WITH $1,000,000 LOTTERY SCRATCH-OFF WIN

Schenectady, NY – With the holiday season fast approaching, forty-eight-year-old Paul Gaeta from Centereach in Suffolk County received an unexpected present. He won the first jackpot prize on the new Holiday Cashword instant ticket from the New York Lottery. The popular holiday themed ticket pays out a lump sum top prize of $1,000,000.
“This really was a big surprise,” said the district manager of an inventory company based out of Manhattan. “I thought the $1,000 I won a couple years ago was nice, but those 3 extra zeros really make a difference!”
Gaeta, Suffolk County’s 10th New York Lottery Millionaire of 2008, has been playing Lottery games for years. “I specifically bought this ticket for the holidays. I just figured Tis’ the Season,” he joked.
Gaeta purchased his winning Holiday Cashword instant ticket on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at the 7-Eleven on Middle Country Road in Centereach during a quick stop to buy some bread. He scratched the ticket in his car and had to look twice to be sure he was a winner. He claimed it on Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Lottery Customer Service Center in Garden City.
“I always thought there was a chance that I would win big one day. With the holidays coming the timing couldn’t be better,” he said.
The father of twin boys already has an idea for a vacation. “My wife Janet and I have always wanted to getaway for a weekend in Atlantic City,” he said. “This will certainly make that possible. We’ll also use some of it to take care of some bills and, of course, do some shopping for the holidays.”
Gaeta’s win is unique for a New York Lottery instant scratch off game as most of the top prizes on instant tickets are paid out as an annuity. The Holiday Cashword ticket is distinctive in that the $1,000,000 jackpot prize is paid as a lump sum. Gaeta will receive his prize as a one-time net payment of $681,500.
