KINCAID RESIDENT CLAIMS $50,000 “RED HOT” TOP PRIZE

TOPEKA, KAN. – Betsie Badders of Kincaid has an hour and a half commute to her job in Pittsburg where she works as a home health care aide. To pass the time, she likes to buy the $2 or $5 Crossword games. Last Wednesday on her way home, Badders purchased four $5 Super Red Hot Crossword instant scratch tickets, winning a $50,000 top prize on the third ticket she played.
“I know I shouldn’t scratch tickets while driving, but it’s a fun way to pass the time,” said Badders. “At first I thought I’d won $20. After checking my ticket, I realized I’d made a mistake and it was a $50,000 winner.”
According to Badders, she pulled over in Moran to have her winning ticket verified.
“I asked the store manager to take a look at my ticket,” said Badders. “We both went over the ticket again. It was hard to believe I’d won $50,000. I was so excited, I tried calling my husband Kent, but he didn’t answer his phone.”
Kent, who accompanied Badders to Lottery headquarters today, was thrilled to hear the good news when he returned home from work.
“We’ll be able to pay off our bills,” said Badders. “We’ll even have some left to play with.”
The winning ticket was purchased at 5 Corners Mini Mart, located 1124 S. Clark, in Fort Scott.
