COLUMBIA, SC – A 74-year-old Spartanburg County man just became the Palmetto State’s newest lottery millionaire!
The lucky player admitted to SCEL staff he was stunned beyond belief when he won $1 million playing Powerball®! The man, who doesn’t want to publicize his name, bought the lucky ticket at Wilco Hess #912 in Spartanburg.
“On a hunch, I spent an extra dollar and got PowerPlay®,” he said. That wise move multiplied the winner’s prize from $200,000 to $1 million when the PowerPlay® number drawn was a 5.
The winning white ball numbers in the October 4 Powerball® drawing were 1, 4, 26, 32, and 39. The red Powerball® was 18 and the PowerPlay® was 5. The player correctly matched all five white ball numbers but missed the red Powerball®.
The new millionaire says he plays the Lottery a few times a week since he and his wife retired. He plans on sharing his winnings with his large family, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
