ATLANTA – A lottery-funded HOPE Grant recipient has hit the lottery. Deshun Watkins, a business student attending Athens Technical College, won a $75,000 top prize playing the Georgia Lottery instant game Winfall.
Watkins, an Athens resident, purchased the ticket at Sam's Food Mart #0001, 1452 Prince Ave. in Athens. He decided to buy the ticket after stopping for a soda and scratched it in the store.
"I was surprised," he said. "I felt like doing a couple of back flips, but I knew that I really couldn’t do them."
The college student plans to graduate in the spring. The prize money will help Watkins, 22, establish his own restaurant.
"I've always wanted to own my own business," he shared.
