EDDY COUNTY WOMEN WIN TOP LOTTERY PRIZES

ALBUQUERQUE – Two local women collected top prizes from the New Mexico Lottery last week.
Carolina Rodriguez of Malaga won $70,000 playing Roadrunner Cash™ while Carlsbad resident Misty Delgado claimed a $30,000 prize from the “Deal or No Deal™” Scratcher game.
Rodriguez purchased three “quick pick” wagers for the Sept. 9 Roadrunner Cash drawing while shopping at the La Tienda Thriftway, a Carlsbad store that has sold 13 other large prize-winning lottery tickets ranging between $1,000 and $10,000. On her second wager, Rodriguez matched the game’s winning numbers of 1, 3, 11, 21 and 27.
The 56-year-old cashier, who began shaking after discovering her prize, plans to pay off all her bills.
Scratcher player Delgado also began shaking after revealing a $30,000 prize while sitting in her car talking on the phone.
“I wanted to get out of the car and scream, but everyone would have thought I was crazy,” she said.
Instead, Delgado called her sister to come look at the ticket.
“I had to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind,” she said.
Delgado will put her prize toward 120 acres in Texas where she plans to live after retirement.
The 46-year-old customer service representative purchased her prize-winning ticket at Food Jet No. 1 at 1095 N. Canal St. in Carlsbad. This lottery retailer has sold 28 other large prize-winning tickets ranging between $1,000 and $80,000.
