SOCORRO WOMAN CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY PLAYING LOTTERY GAMES, WINS $50,000

ALBUQUERQUE – A Socorro woman who bought four New Mexico Lottery Scratchers as a birthday present to herself is now $50,000 richer.
Linda Martinic, 57, selected the $5 “Golden Goose” game, which is based on Aesop’s Fable about a bird capable of laying golden eggs. She discovered her own $50,000 golden egg on the second of the four tickets.
“I jumped up and down and I laughed,” Martinic said. Then she called her husband, Joe, at work and shared only some of the good news.
“I told him that we had won just a few thousand dollars,” the prizewinner recalled, laughing. “He works with power tools and I didn’t want to make him nervous.”
Martinic, who has practiced physical therapy in Socorro for 25 years, purchased her prize-winning Scratcher ticket at Roberts Oil No. 43 at 1104 California NE in Socorro. This lottery retailer has sold six other large prize-winning lottery tickets ranging between $1,000 and $10,000.
