PELLA WOMAN WINS $30,000 30 DAYS AFTER TURNING 30!

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Pella woman received a belated birthday present after playing the Iowa Lottery.
Julie Kuiper of Pella won $30,000 playing the “Crossword” (purple newsprint) instant-scratch game and has an interesting story to go with her win.
“I won $30,000 30 days after I turned 30!” said Kuiper.
Kuiper purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 414 Oskaloosa in Pella and claimed her prize at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines. She recalled where she was when she realized she had won.
“I was at home, sitting on the couch next to my son and I looked four or five times and didn't believe it,” said Kuiper. “I took it back up to the gas station to have them run it and make sure it was for real!”
Kuiper immediately called her mom, who kept the ticket at her house until Kuiper had a chance to cash it in.
“I didn't sleep. I had too many things going through my mind,” she said. “I'm relieved to bring [the ticket] in.”
Kuiper plans to take her two kids to Disney World with her winnings. She also plans to pay off bills and start school again.
Crossword (purple newsprint) is a $3 scratch game. Players win by uncovering at least three complete words in the ticket's puzzle. If a player uncovers 10 words, he/she wins $30,000. The overall odds of winning in the game are about 1 in 4.
Seventeen $30,000 prizes are still up for grabs in the game as well as more than 25 prizes of $3,000, more than 400 prizes of $300 and more than 1,900 prizes of $100.
