$22.5 MILLION CHEQUE PRESENTATION ON CNE FERRIS WHEEL
August 26, 2008
The skies were blue and the future rosy as an excited group of twenty-five workers at Bray Motors, a GM dealership in Sunridge, north of Huntsville, collected $22,572,856 this morning in a cheque presentation at the CNE.

Winners: Tyler Armstrong of Burks Falls, Robert Vander-Kooy of Burks Falls, Ryan Clelland of Dunchurch, John Davis of Huntsville, Maurice Sutton of Huntsville, Brian Emms of North Bay, Melbourne Heittola of South River, Peter F. M. Bray of South River, Peter Bray of South River, Jill Bray of South River, Christopher Bray of South River, Robert Brown of South River, Janet Walker of South River, Calvin Gray of South River, Ward Whitehead of South River, Donald Page of South River, Stanley Whitehead of South River, Michael Drooff of Sundridge, Harold Frank Hill of Sundridge, Aaron Hill of Sundridge, Brian Murdoch of Sundridge, Budd Brown of Sundridge, Kevin Ladd of Sundridge, Kenneth Clare Buchanan of Sundridge and Clarence Hummel of Trout Creek

Each share is worth $902,914.24 thousand. This prize is half of the $45,145,712.00 million LOTTO 6/49 jackpot from the Wednesday August 6, 2008 draw. This was the second largest jackpot in Canadian lottery history. The other half was won in Quebec.

"The morale was good before but now everyone is on cloud nine!" said Peter Bray, owner of the family run dealership founded in 1951 by his dad. Peter Bray Sr. still comes in to the shop, and continued to play in the lottery pool which has been going on for 15 years approximately. He also collected a share of the prize today.

Fifty-six year old salesman Clarence Hummel took over the pool ten years ago, and has faithfully purchased and collected money from everyone. It was Clarence who found out at work on the morning of Thursday Aug 7, that the group had won big - but it took a trip to the Trout Creek General Store with four other employees to confirm it and believe it. "Everyone did a bit of a Happy Dance. It's involuntary - you just do it," laughed Hummel.

Still, with the whole dealership in shock, the consummate salesman went ahead and delivered a Chevy Malibu to a waiting customer. Clearly his mind wasn't on the job that morning. "I remember my customer talking to me. I could see his lips moving but I couldn't hear anything. I had to call him later to apologize, but he laughed and said he understood." Three more cars were sold until lunchtime, when Peter Bray decided to close shop and let his excited employees go home for the day.

The winning ticket was purchased at the One Stop on Ontario Street in Sundridge.
