DEAL OR NO DEAL - DEAL FOR LOTTERY PLAYERS
September 5, 2008
In the first four days of September, six $10,000 prizes have been claimed from the West Virginia Lottery’s Deal Or No Deal* instant game, according to Lottery Director John Musgrave.
“While we had six roll in from Deal Or No Deal, two additional $10,000 prizes were claimed this week from Powerball and the instant game Money Tree.”
Musgrave said the popularity of Deal Or No Deal, along with rapid payouts, was not unexpected. “To celebrate our 24th anniversary in Jan., $1.2 million was taken from the unclaimed prize fund for 120 $10,000 prizes. That freed up money from sales to pay additional prizes and increase payouts to just over 82 percent, which means approximately 82 percent of sales is returned to players in prizes. That added to the drawings being offered, excitement is over the top.”
He said the drawings include chances for trips to Hollywood tapings of Deal Or No Deal, as well as prizes up to $2.5 million, and an additional drawing of entries from the 21 participating lotteries.
Musgrave said that since the game was introduced Aug. 18, one of the game’s eight $100,000 top prizes in West Virginia has been claimed; 12 of the 120 $10,000 prizes have been claimed.
The game included eight $100,000 prizes and 120 $10,000 prizes. Musgrave said there are seven $100,000 prizes and 108 $10,000 prizes remaining to be claimed. Noting brisk sales, Musgrave said that in two weeks, 139,550 Deal Or No Deal $10 tickets have been sold, generating nearly $1.4 million. “Which is nearly 55 percent better than the $20 ticket game ticket we offered for our 20th anniversary.”
Josh Parsons from Barboursville won the game’s first $100,000 prize Aug. 22. His ticket was purchased at Little General in Chapmanville.
The six players claiming $10,000 prizes from the game this week include Richard Chica of Maysville (Judy’s Drug Store, Petersburg), Lora Hatfield of Baisden (Dave’s Self Service, Gilbert), John Maize of Elkins (Rich Oil, Elkins), Shelley Miller of Pecks Mill (Little General, Clothier), Roger Webb of Oak Hill (Co Mac, Oak Hill), and Kathryn Titus of Salem.
Titus purchased her winning ticket from Sports Card Plus at the Italian Heritage Festival last weekend in Clarksburg. Having been named Honorary Italian Woman of the Year, she rode in the festival parade alongside WV First Lady Gayle Manchin. “Gayle brought luck to town. I won $10,000 and my sister-in-law won $700 on another game…when the announcer was giving my name, he said ‘her real claim to fame is that she just won a $10,000 lottery prize,’” said Titus.
