KANSAS CITY WOMAN CLAIMS HALF OF $4.9 MILLION JACKPOT

A 59-year-old Kansas City woman came forward to claim her half of the Aug. 2 Missouri Lotto jackpot worth $4.9 million. Marva Wilson said she found out she was the winner the night of the drawing. Wilson will receive $2,450,000 before taxes if she chooses the annuity or $1.5 million cash before taxes if she chooses the lump sum payment.
“I jumped off my bed and ran into my daughter’s room screaming and hollering,” she said. “It was just like a dream.”
Wilson purchased her winning ticket the day of the drawing at Apple Market, 3719 Independence Ave. in Kansas City, when she stopped for some groceries. She let the computer pick her lucky numbers. They were 4, 15, 18, 23, 30 and 40.
Wilson said she is thinking about buying a house and some new furniture with her prize money. She also plans to help her oldest granddaughter pay for her college education.
In addition to Wilson’s prize, Apple Market will receive a check equal to 1 percent of the prize amount – which is $24,500 – for selling the winning ticket.
An Army veteran and his wife from De Soto presented the other ticket that matched all six numbers drawn on Aug. 2. Philip and Lisa Bequette purchased their winning ticket at AMVETS Post 48, 1075 Amvets Drive in De Soto.
