WICHITA RESIDENT CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY BY CLAIMING $10,000 PRIZE
August 25, 2008

TOPEKA, KAN. – Who would have thought you could do your laundry at a laundry mat and become $10,000 richer? That’s exactly what happened to Sharon Thurman last Friday. The Wichita resident purchased a $10 Joker’s Wild instant scratch ticket at Broadway Laundry, winning a $10,000 cash prize.

“After finishing my laundry, I purchased a ticket,” said Thurman. “I waited until I got home before I scratched it. I knew right away I’d won and started screaming. I couldn’t believe it.”

According to Thurman, she doesn’t play instant scratch tickets often.

“I like Jokers,” said Thurman. “Since the ticket had a big Joker on the front, I decided to try my luck.”

The Wichita resident, who claimed her prize today at Lottery headquarters, was also celebrating her 36th birthday.

“This will be a memorable birthday,” smiled Thurman.

Thurman and her husband Robert have four children. They plan to pay a few bills with their prize money, plus purchase a car for their teenage children and a small motorcycle for their five-year-old who just had a birthday.

The winning ticket was purchased at Broadway Laundry, located at 1827 S. Broadway, in Wichita.
