TICKET GIVEN AS GIFT WINS $20,000

TOPEKA, KAN. – Last Thursday night was a lucky night for Kimberly Butler. The Baldwin City resident revealed 10 words on a $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch ticket, winning a $20,000 top prize on a ticket her mom gave her as a gift.
“Before coming to bingo, my mom stopped and bought four Crossword tickets,” explained Butler. “She gave one ticket to my husband, one to me and kept two for herself. While we were waiting for bingo to start, we scratched our tickets.”
According to Butler, she was shocked when she realized she’d won $20,000.
“I kept asking my mom if she wanted the ticket back,” said Butler. “We were all shocked. I’ve had good luck, though. In the past, I’ve won $500 and $2,000 playing Crossword tickets. I even won $200 playing bingo that night.”
After a sleepless night, Butler decided to have her winning ticket checked at a local convenience store.
“I couldn’t sleep, I was so nervous,” said Butler. “I was afraid I’d made a mistake by scratching the wrong letter.”
Once the ticket was verified at a convenience store, Butler was able to rest easy.
“We were showing our family my winning ticket and my husband kept saying, ‘How does it feel to hold $20,000,’” said Butler. “We’re excited.”
Butler and her husband have three grown children and three grandchildren. They plan to pay bills with their prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip 242, located at 9530 Lackman Rd. in Lenexa.
