SHORELINE RESIDENTS: CHECK YOUR TICKETS - PLEASE!
August 25, 2008
OLYMPIA - Lottery officials are encouraging customers to check their Lotto tickets for the July 26 drawing. Almost a month later, the $9.7 million winning Lotto ticket sold at a Shoreline 7-Eleven remains unclaimed. The winning numbers are 01-08-21-30-36-39 and the ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven in Shoreline located at 1232 N. 185th Street.

“Typically when a large ticket goes unclaimed for this amount of time, it’s a sign the customer just doesn’t know they have a winning ticket,” explained Lottery spokesperson Jacque Coe. “It’s only a two inch slip of green paper, so it’s easy to take it for granted or forget you even have it.”

The passage of a month’s time is unusual, says Coe.

“Most people claim right away to take advantage of interest income; it’s unusual for anyone to know they have a multi-million dollar lottery ticket and not claim right away.”

According to Lottery officials, at a conservative rate of roughly 3.25%, the interest on a Lotto cash option prize over a month’s time would be approximately $9,850.

“That’s enough money to take a family on a really nice vacation to Hawaii,” hints Coe.

Meanwhile, the buzz continues at the Shoreline 7-Eleven where the winning ticket was sold.

“We have people constantly asking us ‘Who won?’ every single day,” says store owner Bob Seronko. “It’s a steady stream of people. Everybody wants to know who won a big Lottery prize; it’s just nice to see something good happen for someone and the fact that it’s one of our customers is really exciting.”

For their efforts, 7-Eleven receives a retail selling bonus of $97,000. 7-Eleven and the local store owner split the bonus, and Seronko acknowledges he plans to give his employees a portion.

Lottery customers who think they have the winning ticket should do the following: sign the back of the ticket, keep it in a cool, safe dry place and call the nearest Lottery office to make an appointment to come in and claim.

According to the Lottery’s records, Shoreline stores have sold nearly $27 million in Lotto and no-longer-offered Quinto top prizes alone. The current Lotto jackpot stands at $3.7 million for Saturday night’s drawing.
