RALEIGH - A new home is in the future for IB Rasmussen of Apex, thanks to his recent $800,000 Powerball win. Rasmussen bought a ticket for the Aug. 13 Powerball drawing and paid an extra dollar to Power Play his ticket. His ticket matched all five white balls drawn. Since the Power Play multiplier for the drawing was 4, the normal $200,000 payout was increased to $800,000.
Rasmussen says he will use the money to buy a house and perhaps take a trip. He purchased his winning ticket at Kangaroo Express #3146 on North Main Street in Fuquay-Varina.
Floyd Stilley of Edward bought a “Carolina Cash 5” ticket for the Aug. 8 drawing. After the drawing, he heard on television that the top prize had been won in New Bern. That detail spurred him to check the numbers on his ticket. All five matched, winning him $580,275!
Stilley plans to pay off bills with his winnings. He purchased his winning ticket at Wilco #1814 on Neuse Boulevard in New Bern.
In the Saturday, Aug. 16, Powerball drawing, a total of 34,746 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes, ranging from $100 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $361,812. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, Aug. 20, drawing is an estimated $43 million.
The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $6.2 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Aug. 14. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $123,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won nearly $783,000 in prizes.
