LOTTERY PLAYERS WIN $100,000 AT WE FEST 2008

Marsha Hall of Detroit Lakes, Bonnie Karst of Watertown, S.D. and Linda Meester of Watertown, S.D. purchased Lottery tickets while they were at WE Fest 2008 because they wanted Lottery T-shirts that were part of a promotional deal. They got the T-shirts that they wanted and a $100,000 winning Sparkling Sapphires scratch ticket.
Hall’s husband purchased the winning ticket and then left it sitting with other scratch tickets on a lawn chair for about 45 minutes until the group returned to play them.
When the $100,000 win was uncovered, “We were all in shock,” said Hall. “I was doubtful, I just thought it couldn’t be possible,” Karst recalled. “I said, ‘Yes, it is [possible]!’” said Hall. From that point on, they didn’t pay as much attention to the musical acts performing. “Kenny Chesney took a back seat to that ticket,” explained Meester.
Staff from Whitey’s Café, located in East Grand Forks, sold tickets at WE Fest 2008. That business will receive a $500 winning ticket bonus for selling the $100,000 winning ticket.
Sparkling Sapphires is a $5 scratch game that offers players a chance to win a sparkling $100,000 top prize. Currently, three of five $100,000 prizes have not been claimed. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.47.
