SHARON RESIDENT WINS “INSTANT” $10,000 CASH PRIZE

TOPEKA, KAN. - Even though Lawrence Smith plays Kansas Lottery instant scratch tickets daily, he had never tried his luck playing a $20 instant game. Last Saturday evening while at a convenience store, the Sharon resident decided to splurge and purchased a $20 Instant Jackpot game. Much to his surprise, he won a $10,000 cash prize.
“I have never played a $20 ticket before,” said Smith. “Out of the blue, I decided to try one. As I was scratching my ticket, I kept revealing $500s. I figured I must have read my ticket wrong or needed my glasses.”
Smith couldn’t believe all the $500 prizes he was revealing. There were twenty in all, totally $10,000.
“I had the clerk at the store check my ticket for me,” said Smith. “I was so excited. I called my kids on my way home. They were excited for me, too.”
Winning a $10,000 cash prize came at a good time for Smith.
“August 6 would have been my wife’s birthday,” said Smith. “She passed away five years ago from cancer. This spring, my house suffered hail damage and needs repair. This money will help pay for most of the damage.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Stars N Stripes 2, located at 519 N. LL and G Rd. in Anthony.
