PUEBLO – Castle Rock resident Calvin Beamon Jr. became $1 million richer Aug. 6, 2008, when he claimed the largest second-chance prize in the Colorado Lottery’s history. Beamon won the prize after entering just one non-winning ticket into the Colorado Millionaire second-chance drawing. His entry was chosen from more than 200,000 on July 31st.
Because he works in Rifle, Beamon didn’t learn of his win until Monday. The electrician plans to use the money to buy two new trucks – one for himself and another for his son. He will also set up a savings account for his two-year-old grandson and share some of his winnings with his mother in Dallas.
A regular Lotto player, Beamon’s entry into the Colorado Millionaire drawing marks the first time he’s participated in one of the Lottery’s second-chance drawings.
The Colorado Lottery holds about 10 second-chance drawings annually for select Scratch games. Players can enter their non-winning tickets for the second-chance drawings by mail or via the Internet.
