OLYMPIA - Alan Jenks of Arlington bought a ticket for the July 16 Hit 5 drawing - and then he forgot about it. It was only two weeks later that he recalled he had a Lottery ticket in his wallet, so he checked to see if it was a winner - and discovered it was worth $110,000. Better late than never!
Jenks, a general contractor, found out about the money at the local Safeway - the same store where he purchased the ticket, and the store he had visited several times since the drawing.
"I knew there had been a winner there, but I didn't think anything of it," said Jenks. "When I finally checked my ticket, the clerk smiled and pointed to the jackpot sign above the desk, and told me THAT was what I won!"
Jenks immediately told his wife Debbie that they were $110,000 richer. The two plan to pay off some bills with their winnings.
"I might sleep really well tonight!" said Jenks.
Two winning tickets for the July 16 Hit 5 drawing split the $220,000 Cash Pot. The winning numbers for the drawing were 02-12-13-17-24. Jenks purchased his ticket at the Safeway located at 3532 172ND ST. NE in Arlington.
