(Baltimore) - A quick stop at a gas station turned out to be a big win for a Garrett County woman. Angela Welch, a mother of two, had just picked up her kids from swimming when she stopped to cash some scratch-off tickets and buy more.
The 29-year-old had $12 worth of winning scratch-off tickets, so she cashed them and bought four $3 tickets. One of them was a Triple Play ticket. When she returned to her car to scratch the tickets, she joked about winning the $30,000 top prize. “When I saw I really had won on the Triple Play ticket, I just sat there in shock,” she said. “Once I got myself together, I told my kids, who thought we were now rich.”
The stay-at-home mom tried to reach Joseph, her husband, a truck driver, to share the news, but she couldn’t reach him until hours later. “She told me to pull over because she had something to tell me,” said Joseph. “I thought she was pregnant.”
The couple plan to use the winnings to pay bills and a planned cruise.
The winning ticket was purchased at Short Stop Liquors, located at 458 Weber Road in Oakland, Maryland.
