Virginia Chickoski almost didn’t buy the ticket that made her an instant millionaire. The Grandview, Manitoba resident looked at the $5 SET FOR LIFE SCRATCH ’N WIN ticket three times before deciding to add it to her purchases.
“I still had $5 from a $20 bill,” the winner said. “So, I decided to buy the $5 ticket.” Virginia was shopping at the Grandview Home Hardware at 437 Main Street in Grandview.
Later, while having lunch, Virginia decided to scratch the ticket and saw she had uncovered three “Set for Life” symbols. “I said, ‘I think I’ve got something here.” Virginia recalled.
She certainly had. The Top Prize on SET FOR LIFE, indicated by three “Set for Life” symbols, is the winner’s choice of $1,000 a week for 25 years, or $1 million.
Virginia went back to the store to check the ticket. “They said ‘You are a millionaire!’ and I said ‘Nah!’” she remembered. “I thought it was $100,000.”
Virginia opted for the million-dollar cash prize. She said she plans to share her windfall with family and donate to her favourite charities.
