REGISTERED NURSE TAKES A SHOT AT MEGA MILLIONS – AND WINS $250,000

It was just the second time Laura Dilbeck of Portsmouth played Mega Millions, but that was all it took. She matched the first five numbers in the July 8, 2008, drawing to win $250,000.
“My sister was playing, so I played too,” she told Virginia Lottery officials.
Ms. Dilbeck purchased the winning ticket at the Food Lion located at 6550 Town Point Road in Suffolk. She used the Easy Pick function, allowing the computer to randomly select the numbers on her ticket.
She then forgot about the ticket until a family friend looked on the Virginia Lottery’s Web site and saw the winning numbers for that drawing: 1-20-22-29-41 and the Mega Ball number 35.
“We almost passed out!” she said.
Ms. Dilbeck, who is a registered nurse, said she plans to use the winnings to pay off bills.
