GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – Judith Yap had no idea that $30 worth of nonwinning Lottery tickets was a sign of good luck. That changed when the 50-year-old licensed care-giver went online to check the winning numbers for her Mega Millions game. “I saw that I could mail in my non-winning tickets for the chance to win $1 million,” Judith said, describing how she got a second chance to win big with “Replay for Riches,” the Lottery’s second-chance summer promotion.
Between now and August 29, 2008, the Lottery will select one weekly “Replay for Riches” winner. Each winner will attend a special qualifying event and spin the “Replay for Riches” wheel, which features prize amounts varying from $25,000 to $150,000. Each contestant will then decide whether to receive a prize check for the amount shown on the wheel or to place the amount won on the “Replay for Riches” leader board, with a chance to be one of the six finalists to participate in the summer promotion’s finale.
With her children on stage with her, Judith began weeping with joy after the “Replay for Riches” wheel came to rest. Judith says she was “awe-struck” to have the opportunity to go home with $150,000. After repeatedly hugging her children, Judith decided to place the amount on the leader board.
If Judith finishes among the six contestants with the highest amounts on the leader board at the end of the promotion, she will attend the “Replay for Riches” finale, where one lucky winner will go home with $1 million and the remaining five finalists will walk away with
$100,000.
Should Judith win the $1 million, she will use the money to fulfill the dreams of her two children. “Both of my kids want to attend medical school and I’d like to build a new house for my mother,” Judith said.
