AUBURN WINNER CLAIMS $222,267 CALIFORNIA LOTTERY PRIZE

SACRAMENTO – A Placer County man didn’t take long to claim his prize from last night’s MEGA Millions game. While he understands the public’s curiosity about his story and is willing to share some details, he prefers to remain anonymous.
The Auburn resident checked the winning Lottery numbers in the newspaper this morning and soon after headed to the California Lottery’s Sacramento office to collect $222,267.
His story began with a trip to the grocery store. He and his adult son often make the trip together. They stopped at the 7-Eleven on the way home to buy tickets for the MEGA Millions draw. The son played “his numbers.” Dad selected with Quick Pick. This morning, the son picked up the paper outside his house, checked his numbers to find he had not won, read a few headlines and then visited Dad nearby to share the paper.
“Couldn’t believe it,” said the winner describing his review of the numbers. His son added, “All of them were right there. Nearly perfect.” The winning ticket held the first five numbers drawn in the MEGA Millions game. It missed the Mega number of 46 by two. The winner’s ticket held number 44. Two other California tickets hit five of the six winning numbers. One ticket, purchased in New Jersey, hit all the winning numbers and is worth $125 million.
The winner says he will use some of his prize to help his son with his business. “He’s my backbone,” the elder said about his son. “I’ll try to help out.”
The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven located at 500 Auburn Ravine Road in Auburn.
