INDIANAPOLIS – Dolores Lightfoot of Hebron spends about $4 per week playing Hoosier Lotto. When she had her numbers checked at the store where she purchased her tickets, she noticed something different.
“I had the girls checking and checking,” said Lightfoot. “They were crying [with joy]. That’s when they told me.”
The clerks at Godfathers Liquor at 107 E. Morthland Drive in Valparaiso told Lightfoot she had won the $10 million July 2nd Hoosier Lotto jackpot. The store receives a $100,000 bonus for selling the jackpot winning ticket.
Lightfoot and her husband Herbert had to keep the winning ticket at home over the July 4th holiday and then put the ticket in a lockbox. At the time they claimed their prize this afternoon, they had told only their lawyer, tax accountant and investment advisor about the win. They chose the take the one-time lump sum estimated payment of $4,483,492 before taxes.
“Our kids don’t know,” said Herbert. “They [will all] get a piece of the action.”
This is the 93rd Hoosier Lotto jackpot awarded since the game began September 18, 1994. Odds of winning the Hoosier Lotto jackpot are 1 in 12,271,512. The Lightfoots matched all six numbers in the July 2 drawing: 12, 17, 18, 29, 45 and 47.
