Lewiston – The Idaho Lottery plans to return to several northern Idaho communities. This announcement came during a ceremonial signing of a Class III Gaming compact this afternoon at the Clearwater River Resort in Lewiston, Idaho. Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and Nez Perce Tribe Chairman Samuel N. Penney signed the historic agreement that will resume the sale of Idaho Lottery games in a number of northern Idaho communities. Prior to the start of Lottery operations in the area, the gaming compact must be approved by United States Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, a former Governor of Idaho.
The communities and surrounding unincorporated trading areas where Idaho Lottery tickets may be sold include Ahsahka, Craigmont, Culdesac, Kamiah, Kooskia, Lapwai, Lenore, Nez Perce, Orofino, Peck, Winchester, and the Tribal economic enterprise located approximately three miles east of Lewiston on U.S. Highway 12.
“The compact reflects the growing spirit of cooperation between the State of Idaho and the Nez Perce Tribe,” Governor Otter said. “This is the latest in a series of government-to-government agreements we’ve reached in recent years that indicate our shared commitment to advancing opportunities for all Idahoans and the interests of the state we all call home.”
For the past year, officials from both organizations collaborated on the compact allowing Lottery games to be come available to more than 26,000 residents.
“This historic compact allows the Idaho Lottery an opportunity to now bring our games to all Idahoans,” announced Idaho Lottery Director Jeff Anderson. “The advantages of selling Lottery products in these communities include economic stimulus for retailers, entertainment opportunities for players, and financial benefits for the communities at large.”
Lottery revenues are returned to the community in the form of retailer commissions and bonuses, player prizes, and annual dividends to school districts.
