LUCKY LOCAL WINS $150,000 – $140,000 HIT 5 TICKET ABOUT TO EXPIRE
July 9, 2008
OLYMPIA— Yakima area residents have roughly one month to check their old Lottery tickets for a winner. A Hit 5 ticket worth $140,000 from the February 6, 2008 drawing will expire Wednesday, August 6, 2008. The winning ticket with the numbers 01-06-22-23-28 was sold at Top Food & Drug located at 2203 S. 1st ST. in Yakima.
And given the $150,000 win by near-by Kennewick resident Wayne Scharf in the July 5 Hit 5 drawing, central Washington players have reason to dream! He bought his ticket with the winning numbers – 01-08-16-18-39 – at Sun Mart located at 7707 W. Deschutes Avenue in Kennewick.
Lottery customers have 180 days from the date of a drawing to claim their prize. Pending unclaimed prizes are listed on the Unclaimed Top Prizes page of the Lottery's Web site.
"It's rare for large prizes to go unclaimed, but it's not unheard of," said Lottery spokesperson Jacque Coe. "Most customers who buy a ticket are eager to check the winning numbers, and of those who do hold a winning ticket, they usually claim their prize within days."
Unclaimed prizes are returned to the Lottery's unclaimed prize fund which, by law, must go back to customers in the form of prizes. Such monies are used for prizes such as second chance drawings for instant tickets, and promotional prizes for Lotto and other games.
