LYNCHBURG WOMAN IS STUNNED TO WIN $100,000 TOP PRIZE IN CASH 5

When Shirley Hughes of Lynchburg visited the Virginia Lottery’s website to check the winning numbers for the July 2, 2008, Cash 5 day drawing, she could not believe her eyes.
“I died and came back to life!” she later told Virginia Lottery officials.
The ticket that she bought at the 7-Eleven at 2315 Bedford Avenue in Lynchburg matched all five numbers to win $100,000. Those winning numbers were 1-9-19-22-24.
Ms. Hughes, who is retired from Lynchburg College, selected her numbers using family birthdays. She said she plays Cash 5 every now and then.
Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
