MEGA MILLIONS WIN REVIVES 20-YEAR OLD PROMISE FOR NORFOLK MAN

Twenty years ago, Mark Salmon of Norfolk made his wife a promise: someday they would buy a house. On Friday, July 4, 2008, that dream came within reach when he won $250,000 in Mega Millions.
“I saw the winning numbers and yelled, ‘I won $10,000,’” Mr. Salmon told Lottery officials. “Then I moved my thumb, which was covering the last number on the ticket, and I said, ‘Correction, I won $250,000!’”
His ticket matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number to win Mega Millions’ second-highest prize. The winning numbers for that drawing were 1-3-12-19-20 and the Mega Ball number was 28.
He bought the winning ticket at Royal Mart, located at 7501 Tidewater Drive in Norfolk. He selected his numbers using Easy Pick, in which the computer randomly chooses six numbers.
Mr. Salmon, who works as a wrecker driver, told Lottery officials the $250,000 prize will enable him to keep the promise he made to his wife all those years ago.
