ATHENS… It was July 4th when a Meigs County resident went window-shopping for a new furnace. Little did Amy Workman of Pomeroy know that her research would result in more celebrating after she won a $10,000 prize on the instant game Panda-Money-Um. She filed a claim in the Athens’ regional office this morning.
“I went to Lowe’s checking the price of a new furnace that I would need in the fall. I didn’t know how I was going to pay for a furnace and school clothes too,” she said. “When I got to work I bought this instant game because on Father’s Day, one of the customer’s won $50.”
After mandatory Federal and State taxes totaling 31 percent, Workman receives $6,900.
Workman purchased the winning ticket at 7-Eleven, 5321 Washington Road in Albany. Panda-Money-Um began selling 4/25/08. There are at least twenty $10,000 prizes available for winning.
“There’s has been a spike in the sale of instants since people found out that I won,” she said.
