RALEIGH - A trip to buy some gas and get a car wash at the Dodge City BP on Naber Drive in Shallotte ended up making Tina Murphy of Shallotte one of the North Carolina Education Lottery’s (NCEL) latest big winners. Murphy won $250,000 playing the “$250,000 Cash Bonanza” instant scratch-off game.
Murphy says she went inside to pay for the gas when she decided on a whim to buy two “$250,000 Cash Bonanza” tickets. While sitting in her car in the car wash, she busied herself by scratching off the tickets. She won $50 on the first ticket and then the top prize of $250,000 on the second!
Murphy called her husband to tell him the good news then went back inside the convenience store to have the cashier scan the ticket to double check that it was a winner. She says she plans to use some of the money to take her family on a vacation to the Caribbean.
Players should check their “Carolina Cash 5” tickets. One ticket in the July 3 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing matched all five white balls and is worth $152,225! The winning ticket was sold at Village Stop and Shop on Vance Street in Wilmington.

No one matched all five white balls and the Powerball, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, July 9, drawing is an estimated $20 million.
