SHALLOTTE WOMAN WINS $250,000 “CASH BONANZA” PRIZE
July 7, 2008

RALEIGH - A trip to buy some gas and get a car wash at the Dodge City BP on Naber Drive in Shallotte ended up making Tina Murphy of Shallotte one of the North Carolina Education Lottery’s (NCEL) latest big winners. Murphy won $250,000 playing the “$250,000 Cash Bonanza” instant scratch-off game.

Murphy says she went inside to pay for the gas when she decided on a whim to buy two “$250,000 Cash Bonanza” tickets. While sitting in her car in the car wash, she busied herself by scratching off the tickets. She won $50 on the first ticket and then the top prize of $250,000 on the second!

Murphy called her husband to tell him the good news then went back inside the convenience store to have the cashier scan the ticket to double check that it was a winner. She says she plans to use some of the money to take her family on a vacation to the Caribbean.

Players should check their “Carolina Cash 5” tickets. One ticket in the July 3 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing matched all five white balls and is worth $152,225! The winning ticket was sold at Village Stop and Shop on Vance Street in Wilmington.

“Carolina Cash 5” players should also check their old tickets to see if they are holding another top prize winning ticket from June. One ticket from the June 4 drawing matched all five white balls and is worth $575,372. This ticket was sold at The Border Station on Caratoke Highway in Moyock and has yet to be claimed.

Plus, one winning ticket was sold for the June 29 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing. That ticket that matched all five white balls is worth $106,977 and was sold at Duey’s Stop & Shop #4 on West South Main Street in Waxhaw.

In the Saturday, July 5, Powerball drawing a total of 38,868 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes, ranging from $500 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $409,156. No one matched all five white balls and the Powerball, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, July 9, drawing is an estimated $20 million.

The NCEL has paid out nearly $5 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, July 3. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $267,343 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $874,440 in prizes.
