COLUMBIA WOMAN UNCOVERS $10,000
July 8, 2008
Darylicia Wilkerson of Columbia was just looking to get out of the house for a while and ended up with a Scratchers ticket worth $10,000. Saturday, July 5, was a day of mixed emotions for her family as there was a funeral in the morning and a family reunion that afternoon. That evening, Wilkerson, 34, decided to go for some snacks and made a visit to Petro Mart, 500 N. College in Columbia. She bought two lottery tickets at the store, one of which was a $5 winner, and another, which was a little more exciting. The "Lucky 7’s" Scratchers ticket indicates that players can win up to 20 times, and after revealing a horseshoe symbol, Wilkerson knew that she won all 20 prizes.
"So I said, let me start from the bottom of the ticket and work my way up to the top," related Wilkerson regarding scratching off the prize amounts. "So I scratched off the bottom and it said it was $500. So I’m sitting there, and that thing said if you find the horseshoe, you win 20 times. I’m like, anything could be up underneath here. I scratched it off all the way up, and it was $500 all the way up."
Wilkerson, a single mother of a teenage daughter, said the win was a blessing. She recently experienced some car trouble and will begin cosmetology school later this month. The win will help cover expenses related to transportation and education, plus provide a little shopping money for her daughter.
"I read that ticket three and four times," said Wilkerson. "I’m overwhelmed right now."
