BAINBRIDGE WOMAN "WILL NEVER FORGET" WINNING $100,000 IN RAFFLE
July 2, 2008

OLYMPIA — Rachel Brodeur of Bainbridge thought her stressful month would never end. After her husband moved away to Illinois for a new job, she was left behind to put the house on the market and drive their pets to their new out-of-state home.

As time drew closer for her to make the cross country trek, rising gas prices became an increasing concern. Those concerns quickly faded away when she checked the winning numbers for the Million Dollar Raffle on the Lottery Web site.

"I've never really bought Lottery tickets before, but when I saw how good the odds are I figured 'Why not, I could be that winner?'" Brodeur said shaking with excitement. "$100,000 richer, sure enough, I am! It will certainly help with gas!"

Brodeur won $100,000, along with three other second tier winners from the Million Dollar Raffle drawing. Brodeur was convinced she’d win when she bought her ticket.

"I have had such wonderful memories in Washington," Brodeur said. "I just knew this would be a perfect memory to leave with. I knew that it had to be me that won. I could just feel it."

Brodeur says she plans to use most of the money to assist in her upcoming move to Illinois, but plans to make one more memory in Washington first.

"I'm going to celebrate by buying myself a wonderful Chinese dinner from my favorite place," Brodeur said. "It's a great way to celebrate living in Washington. I will never forget my time in this wonderful state!"

Brodeur won the $100,000 second tier prize when she matched the winning number 210788. She purchased her ticket from Safeway located at 253 High School Road NE in Bainbridge Island.
