GREENSBORO MAN WINS $191,520 PLAYING “CAROLINA CASH 5”
July 1, 2008

RALEIGH - Jeffrey Posey of Greensboro says he will “pay bills and have some fun” with the “Carolina Cash 5” winnings he claimed last Friday. Posey won $191,520 in the June 25 drawing.

Posey picked his own numbers for the ticket he bought at Gate #415 on New Garden Road in Greensboro. He says he checked the winning numbers on the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) Web site and was so amazed to see his numbers on the screen that he had to double and triple check the numbers to make sure he had really won.

David Long of New Bern was at home drinking a cup of coffee when he decided to scratch off the “$150,000 Anniversary Cash” ticket he had bought at Parker’s Town & Country on Trent Boulevard in New Bern. He was so surprised when it revealed the top prize of $150,000 that he says there is now a coffee stain on the carpet! Long says he plans to use the money to buy new golf clubs and take a trip.

In the June 29 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing, one ticket matched all five white balls to win the top prize of $106,977. This ticket was sold at Duey’s Stop & Shop #4 on West South Main Street in Waxhaw.

Five tickets in the Saturday, June 28, Powerball drawing matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball. The normal payout for this combination is $10,000; however one of these tickets was Power Played. Since the Power Play wheel landed on 3 for the drawing, that one ticket’s prize was increased to $30,000. This ticket was sold at XPress Mart #22 on West Catawba Avenue in Cornelius.

The four Powerball tickets that were not Power Played are worth $10,000 each. They were sold at Kangaroo Express #3158 on Monroe Street in Carthage, Kangaroo Express #3787 on Burlington Road in Whitsett, M&M Superette on Dallas Stanley Highway in Dallas, and Short Stop #57 on Carbonton Road in Sanford.

A total of 45,809 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, June 28, drawing, ranging from $30,000 down to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $409,573. No one matched all five white balls and the Powerball in Saturday night’s drawing, so the jackpot for the Wednesday, July 2, drawing is an estimated $85 million.

The NCEL has paid out more than $5.8 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, June 26. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Cash 5” players have won more than $290,000 and “Carolina Pick 3” players have won more than $1.4 million in prizes.
