EL DORADO RESIDENT SCRATCHES HER WAY TO $6,000 WIN

TOPEKA, KAN. – Every week, Doris Butler splurges and buys $5 worth of $1 instant scratch tickets. On June 12, the 75-year-old El Dorado resident purchased five $1 Cat Scratcher instant tickets, winning a $6,000 top prize on the very last ticket she played.
“I won $15 or $16 on the first couple of tickets I played,” explained Butler. “I was pleased with winning that. When I realized I’d won $6,000, I about had a heart attack. I had to call one of my sons to come over to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.”
According to Butler, her son cashed in the smaller winners for her and had the big winner checked at a local convenience store.
“When he returned, he handed me my winning ticket and said it really was a $6,000 winner,” smiled Butler. “I guess I wasn’t dreaming.”
According to Butler, waiting two weeks to claim her winning ticket at Lottery headquarters in Topeka was difficult.
“I’ve been a nervous wreck for two weeks,” said Butler. “I never let the ticket out of my sight.”
When Lottery officials asked what she planned to do with her winnings, her response was, “Have some fun! What else is someone my age going to do? I plan to enjoy it.”
Butler, who is widowed, has three sons, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip 310, located at 1320 W. Central Ave. in El Dorado.
