WALNUT WOMAN WINS $30,000
July 3, 2008
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Pottawattamie County woman recently won the top prize in a favorite Iowa Lottery scratch game.
Michelle Sunderman, 47, of Walnut won $30,000 playing the “Crossword” (purple newsprint) instant-scratch game. She purchased the winning ticket at Eddy's, 611 E. Broadway in Council Bluffs and claimed her prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.
Sunderman said she had to have her mother and brother double check her ticket to make sure she actually had 10 words!
“We couldn't believe it,” she said. “I haven't told my husband yet…. He won't believe it.”
Sunderman said she'll give some of her prize money to her mother. She's also thinking about taking a trip.
“I'll probably take a vacation. [I've always wanted] to go to Hawaii,” she said.
