ORANGE PARK MAN PLAYS FAMILY BIRTHDAY'S AND WINS $12 MILLION FLORIDA LOTTO™ JACKPOT

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Lottery announced today that FLORIDA LOTTO™ winner Robert G. Powell, 63, of Orange Park claimed the June 25 $12 million FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot.
Powell chose the one-time, lump-sum payment for the winnings in the amount of $6,713,200.00. The winning FLORIDA LOTTO ticket was purchased at the Kangaroo Express, located at 1890 Kingsley Avenue in Orange Park. The retailer received a bonus incentive of $25,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.

According to Powell, he plays the same FLORIDA LOTTO numbers twice a week, a combination of his birthday (7/22/47) and his wife's birthday (9/21/44), not expecting to win, but to support education. Powell and his wife both work in real estate and thought that their retirement would need to be postponed, now after winning the jackpot "the stress is gone," Powell said. The couple plans to use the winnings to tithe to their church, help family and invest in real estate. Powell says he will continue playing FLORIDA LOTTO but will be spending $3 on LOTTO PLUS™ tickets from now on. Before leaving, Powell told Lottery officials, "I feel like $12 million!"
Total ticket sales for this jackpot generated approximately $9 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF). Since 1988, the Florida Lottery has contributed more than $18 billion to the EETF, benefiting our students and schools, as well as funding more than one million Bright Futures scholarships. By a two-to-one margin, Florida voters in 1986 approved a constitutional amendment authorizing the state to operate a lottery for the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education.
Powell is the 5th FLORIDA LOTTO winner to purchase a winning ticket in Clay County. FLORIDA LOTTO has produced over 930 jackpot winners since 1988.
The next FLORIDA LOTTO drawing will be held on tonight, July 2, at 11 p.m. ET with jackpots of $6 million, $16 million and $31 million.
